I have a problem. I’m always running low on dog treats. Its not (only) because Tongka is spoiled, it’s also because a) I never stock up b) he’s not really into super-healthy snacks. So when I have meat for example, I always cut off some bite sized pieces and put them in the freezer (so they last 5 seconds instead of 1).
That said, the goodies we feature this week ARE treats most dogs – including Tongka – just love. And what I should do is stock up on these treats so I never have to think about it.
We hope you enjoy the post!
Thank you so much,
Sidra, David and Tongka
We know dogs love treats! And the reasons to give our four-legged friends a few treats now and then are many. Mainly dog treats are good for:
In training your dog through the use of treats, however, you must keep in mind a series of factors of fundamental importance to have a both physically and psychically healthy dog.
First of all, remember that treats are not the only tools available to educate a dog. In fact, what prevails over everything is the relationship you can establish with your 4-legged friend, dialogue, physical and visual contact. All of this will be fundamental in educate the animal.
Secondly, next to treats you have many other means to reward the dog by a positive attitude; for example pampering.
During training, treats can be used the first few times, to facilitate the memorization of a certain behavior of the animal, but it must be progressively abandoned, leaving only the cuddles and caresses.
The dog must understand that an attitude of a certain type allows good relationships with other living beings, regardless of the treat.
So let’s consider another important point: the treats must be healthy and low in calories. Otherwise they add to the normal ration of food and can cause overweight or digestion problems.
The treat shouldn’t be given too often, because it should be perceived as a reward by the dog. In this way, it is like sweet or candy for a child, if it is too frequent and he gets used too much, it will not have the same effect.

The teeth appear covered with a yellow patina that can also appear quite thick, with a lot of calcifications that painfully affect the gums. Abscesses can form, the dog suffers from chewing and food intake can become difficult.
Bad oral hygiene can negatively affect the general health of the dog, especially if he is elderly as it is the most delicate phase of his life.
