Hachiko was born on November 10, 1923. He met Ueno, a teacher from Tokyo, who was to be his owner forever. Hachiko accompanied the man to the station every morning, and there he returned at 5 pm when the day was over. This until Ueno’s sudden death during a lesson.
Hachiko, never stopped, for the next 9 years, to go to the station at 5, waiting for the return of his human friend, until, at the age of 11, death did not catch him too. But in the meantime, his story was already witnessed to an unshakable love. Hachiko became a legend.
In front of the Shibuya station in Tokyo, you can see the very famous bronze statue of Hachiko, which waits in vain for the return of Ueno. But a few years ago, another statue was made with happy Hachiko reunited with its owner.
Hachiko was an Akita Inu. In character, the Akita Inu is lovely: a calm, faithful, and compassionate dog. Docile and obedient, easy to train, receptive, proud. Serious and devoted to his owner (to the point of possessiveness and jealousy), he is also sweet and helpful with children. It can be suspicious and prudent when it believes there are threats, and sometimes it tends to isolate itself.
The Akita Inu becomes attached and remains forever connected to one person. He is cuddly with his owner, docile and respectful with strangers. It is by nature, a dominant dog that can have sudden and overwhelming reactions in comparison to other dogs of the same breed. For this, it must be adequately trained.

Hachiko was not alone, so many people brought him food and comforted him every day
Bobby’s story takes us back to the nineteenth century, to Edinburgh, Scotland. The protagonist of this story is a Terrier belonging to a policeman called John Gray. The man and the animal were united, and the animal had become famous for the acrobatics it was able to achieve.
Unfortunately, Gray died of tuberculosis. Bobby was present throughout his friend’s funeral, then followed the funeral procession to the cemetery. And there he remained, above the tomb of his friend, for the next 14 years of life.
As time went by, Bobby turned into a veritable legend of the place, earning the affection of the people, who used to bring him food and offer him refuge during the harsh Scottish winters.
As was inevitable, Bobby also died at his friend’s grave. The inhabitants of the place then decided to erect a statue in his honor, near the cemetery, looking towards the place where John Gray had been buried.

This is the story of Capitan, a German Shepherd crossbreed found lifeless where his human friend had been buried. According to the operators of the Argentine cemetery that already knew him well and also brought him food, “It seemed that he was waiting for the day when they would finally come together.”
For over ten years, Capitan remained loyal to his dead owner. Day after day, he never left the tomb of Miguel Guzman, his human friend, who died in 2006. He remained close to him until his last breath.
In 2005 Miguel Guzman returned home with a gift for his son Damian: a German shepherd with a wonderfully sweet and playful character. A few months later, the man died. In those days, nobody noticed the absence of the dog that reappeared shortly after the funeral of its owner.
The dog sniffed every corner of the house, then left again, and crouched down not far from home. He was alert as if he knew that his owner would reappear at any moment. Until one day, he left. The family believed him dead or adopted by another family, gone out of their lives forever.
One day Veronica Guzman and her son Damian went to the cemetery of Villa Carlos Paez. As they approached Miguel’s grave, they hear barking, almost a cry. It was their dog Capitan. They called him, but he didn’t follow them and remained by the grave of his human friend.
The following Sunday, mother and son returned to visit Miguel. And Captain was still there. The man’s grave had now become his home.
Capitan was not a pure breed, but a German Shepherd cross breed. This dog is one of the animals most loyal to its owner. In fact, if trained, it is a perfect defense dog, the best ever. Faithful, balanced, extremely protective. It is the ideal dog for those who want a courageous, dedicated, extremely loyal, intelligent, and reliable companion by their side.

How to help a dog missing its owner
Not all dogs will spend their lives at the owner’s grave. Yes, however, they will be strongly affected by his absence. It is not clear how much dogs can understand the concept of death as an event without return. No doubt that one out of every ten dogs shows signs of anxiety and distress in the face of the loss of a loved one, person, or animal.
Dogs are animals that are very dependent on their owners, and an abrupt change in the hierarchical situation in the family can seriously affect them.
Canine psychologists and behavioral specialists share the idea that special attention must be given to a dog that is going through a similar state of crisis, to ensure that it remains healthy. Despite the difficulties a family can experience at the time of mourning, we must not forget our four-legged friends.
Some small tricks to help him face these moments are:
- Keep his activity level high, so you’ll have to push it to practice consistently.
- Give him much affection and cuddle him a lot.
- Use his favorite toys to stimulate physical activity.
- Take it for a walk, even a simple trip by car. It will be an excellent distraction for him.
- If possible, try to spend more time with him.
- Go to the vet immediately if the dog stops eating regularly or appears too downcast, he may need special care.
An unusual behavior, which has gradually become a more popular fact, is to allow the dog to approach the body of the owner. This way, the dog does not think he has been abandoned but understands what is happening.

Many breeds indeed have loyalty and confidence in their character, and some are particularly inclined compared to others. Think of the German shepherd, the Newfoundland, the boxer, and the dachshund.
We wanted to find the loyal behavior of these dogs in the typical characteristics of the breed. We have deliberately added the case of Captain, a German shepherd crossbreed.
Taking into account that even the most intelligent, calm, and affectionate dogs should always be trained and educated, we cannot foresee an exclusive bond with the owner.
Regardless of breed, the dog and his human friend develop a relationship so intense that it becomes indissoluble.
Let’s think about the fact that there are entire families to look after, cuddle, and feed the dog. Still, when the owner dies, some dogs never return home, neither to their family, because the bond with one person, it is so special and unique.
